Problem

Merchant Center missing shipping information: how to fix it

Merchant Center missing shipping information is a country-level problem wearing a product-level label. Google needs a shipping cost it can show for every product in every country you target, and when no shipping service, feed attribute or synced rate covers a product for that country, the product cannot serve there. The repair is to find which country and which products are uncovered, then give them one source of shipping data that reaches all of them.

Does this look familiar?

  • Products are disapproved with an issue that says shipping information is missing for a target country
  • Every product added to a new target country is disapproved while the same products serve elsewhere
  • Disapprovals appeared after shipping settings were edited, an app was reinstalled or a shipping profile changed
  • Heavy or bulky items are flagged while lighter items in the same country are fine
  • Merchant Center shows shipping settings, yet the product detail view shows no shipping cost for the country

Causes, ranked

Why it happens, most common first

Check them in this order. The first two account for most cases we open.

  • most common

No shipping service covers the country

A feed targets Canada, or a second feed label adds a country, but the account only has a shipping service for the United States. Shipping services are defined per country and currency, and a service in the wrong currency for the feed does not count as coverage either.

  • most common

The service exists but its rules exclude some products

A service restricted to a shipping_label the products do not carry, a rate table with a gap between price or weight bands, or a free-shipping-over rule with no rate beneath the threshold leaves particular products without a cost. Those products are reported as missing shipping.

  • common

Platform sync stopped or overwrote the settings

When shipping is synced from Shopify or another platform, a reinstalled channel app, a renamed shipping profile or a disconnected account can drop the synced service. The settings still look present until you notice the last update date is weeks old.

  • common

A feed shipping attribute that is incomplete

The shipping attribute in the feed overrides account settings for the products that carry it. A feed rule or app that fills the attribute with a country but no price, or applies it to only part of the catalogue, leaves those items with no usable value.

  • occasional

    Carrier-calculated rates without weight

Services that calculate cost from carrier rates need shipping_weight, and sometimes dimensions, on each item. Products missing those values get no rate and are flagged, which is why bulky lines often fail while the rest of the catalogue serves.

The fix

In this order

Each step is something you can do today. Do them in sequence; skipping ahead is how a review fails twice.

Prevent it next time

  • Add a shipping service for each new target country before the feed for that country goes live
  • Set a default rate in every rate table so no price or weight band is left empty
  • Check the last sync date on synced shipping settings after any app or shipping profile change
  • Keep shipping_weight populated on every product, even where flat rates apply today
  1. Identify the country and the affected products

Open a disapproved item and note the target country named in the issue. Filter the products view by that issue and export. Compare the exported list against the whole catalogue for that country to see whether all products are affected or only a slice.

  2. Create or repair the shipping service for that country

In the shipping and returns settings, add a service for the country in the feed's currency with a rate, a handling time and a transit time. If a service already exists, open it and check that the currency matches and the service is active.

  3. Check the coverage rules inside the service

Remove shipping_label restrictions unless the products carry the label, close gaps in rate tables so every price and weight band has a rate, and set an explicit rate below any free-shipping threshold. Every product must resolve to a number.

  4. Fix or stop the platform sync

If the settings come from Shopify or another platform, reconnect the channel app and confirm the sync ran recently. If the sync cannot express your real rates, turn it off for shipping and manage the service directly in Merchant Center.

  5. Complete or remove the feed attribute

Where the feed carries a shipping attribute, populate country, service name and price for every item, or delete the attribute so the account-level service applies instead. Add shipping_weight to any item a carrier-calculated service depends on.

  6. Confirm on a product and watch the count

Open one previously flagged product and check that Merchant Center now shows a shipping cost for the target country. Then watch the issue count over the next day as the change propagates across the catalogue.

When to get help

Get help when you ship to several countries with different carriers and currencies, when free-shipping thresholds vary by market, or when the rates shown at checkout are calculated live and no flat setting matches them. Google requires the advertised shipping cost to be no lower than the checkout cost, and reconciling the two takes a shipping model rather than a single edit.

Questions

Asked alongside this problem

By CartKernel · Last reviewed

Where is the best place to set shipping: account settings or the feed?

Account-level shipping services for almost every store, because one service covers the whole catalogue and can be edited without a feed change. Use the feed attribute only for exceptions, such as a handful of oversized items that need their own rate.

Do free listings also need shipping information?

Shopping ads require a shipping cost for the target country. Free listings have looser requirements, but a missing rate still weakens them and leaves shoppers guessing at the total, so the same service should cover both.

Why does the error appear only for Canada when my US products are fine?

Because shipping services are per country and currency. Adding Canadian targeting to a feed does not extend the United States service. Create a Canadian service in Canadian dollars, with its own rates and transit times.

Can I set shipping to zero if the store offers free delivery?

Yes. A service with a zero rate is valid as long as checkout also charges nothing for those products in that country. If free delivery applies only over a threshold, the service needs a real rate for orders below it.
